Hanoi: Vietnam on Monday sought cooperation from India to bolster its primary school education even as CBSE textbooks are slowly gaining popularity. During External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj talks with the Vietnamese leadership, it was noted that India has a good primary school system.
The Vietnamese side said that they would be keen to work with India on possible ventures for cooperation at the primary level, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said. Even as the government seeks India's help, Navneet Kalia, founder and chairman of Ismart Education, is making sure that Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) system of education finds its footings in the Communist country.
Kalia, who has been living in Vietnam for the past 17 years, has introduced the CBSE teaching method in three subjects - Math, Science and English - in primary classes across 25 schools in major cities in Vietnam.
"When one talks about educations, everybody thinks of Cambridge and American system. I want everyone to talk about CBSE system," he told a group of visiting Indian reporters on the sidelines of an event organised by the Indian High Commission.
Asked why only those three subjects, he said, "These are the subjects without any bias, religion or anything". According to its website, the CBSE has its presence across 21 countries.
