What Is Varahi Navratri? Who All Can Celebrate

A majority of India celebrates Chaitra and Sharada Navratri, along with Gupt Navratri and Magha Gupta Navratri. Varahi Navratri is a famous festival that celebrates the power of Shakti and is a nine-day festival for Goddess Varahi that takes place from Ashad Padyami to Navami.

Varahi Navratri was celebrated from July 6 to July 15. It is also known as Ashada Gupta and falls during Ashada month. As per the Puranas, Varahi Amman is believed to keep plants green and bestow material blessings. But who all celebrates the festival?

In the three Puranas, Brahmanda, Markandeya and Matsya, describe the greatness of the Goddess. In an interview with Local18, Bala Tripura Sundari Devi Kala Bhairava Peethadhipati’s priest, Ganesh Garu explained in detail about the Varahi Goddess. Bala Tripura Sundari Devi is a Hindu Goddess of the Tantric Shri Vidya tradition and her temple is located in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. As per the priest, during Varahi Navratri, Kunkum archanas are performed here every day. Goddess Varahi is known to keep arrogance, jealousy and hate at bay.

Varahi Goddess can be worshipped only if one has the qualities of the Goddess. If she sees signs of worship, then she is known to manifest herself. She should be worshipped in a sattvic manner. One should keep their mind free of hate and jealousy, and anyone can worship Varahi Devi as the embodiment of Brahmavidya. If one worships Varahi Amma, she is known to bless them with bountiful.

Varahi Navratri is celebrated with utmost fervour in places like Odisha, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and others. She is known to be the consort of Lord Varaha, the boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu. She is believed to be the manifestation of Shakti and one of the eight Matrikas. Varahi Amma was born from the body of Lord Varaha and has the face of a boar holding Sangu, Chakram, Gadhai, Kadgam, Mushalam, Damaragam, Abayavaradam and Ulakkai.
