CUTTACK: Only 10 days after the horrific incident of a woman being pushed off the Mahanadi river barrage, similar fears were raised on Friday when another woman was found falling from the bridge on Kathjodi river on the Gopalpur end under Sadar police limits. The woman, identified as Renubala Rout (29), survived the fall and it was later established that she had attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the river. She was rescued by locals and admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.According to reports, locals bathing in the Gopalpur-end ghat of the Kathjodi river were in for a shock when they saw the woman falling down into the river. However, as the water was shallow, she did not drown and was rescued by the locals. She had sustained minor injuries and was rushed to the SCBMCH, where she is being treated. While it was first believed that she was pushed off the bridge, eyewitnesses on the bridge reported that she had jumped into the river, police said.Renubala is yet to make a statement on the issue as police have started investigations into the incident. The woman is said to hail from Nayagarh and was staying in Cuttack with her husband Ramesh Rout, an auto-rickshaw driver.
