Worker drowns in poultry feed slush

HYDERABAD: One worker died and three others had a narrow escape after they fell into slush at a poultry feed manufacturing unit at Shamirpet, near here, on Friday.The accident took place at Vimala Feeds which manufactures poultry feed from maize corn and other ingredients.“There are three large overground tank-like structures, each 10 metres high, which can store nearly 3,500 quintals of feed," Secunderabad station fire officer Vijay Kumar said. When maize corn is mixed with other ingredients, the mixture turns into a slush.“The motor of one of the tanks got dysfunctional and four workers went inside the tank. The slush appeared to be hard enough to stand on. But when the quartet landed on it, it suddenly gave way and they slipped and drowned. Other workers managed to pull two to safety. Fire services personnel reached the place and with help of other workers managed to pull out another worker but the fourth could not be saved. After flushing out the mixture from the tank, the body  was retrieved.The deceased was identified as Santosh (23), a resident of Masjidguda.
