Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and his deputy K S Eshwarappa made their presence seem a formality when the former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa launched his tour of droughthit districts at Siddaganga Mutt here on Tuesday.

While addressing the gathering both Shettar and Yeddyurappa urged the Centre to bring about a change in the policy to ensure that the nationalised banks too toe the state’s line by waiving off the farmers’ loans.

After taking the blessings of Sri Shivakumara Swamiji they boarded separate cars and visited a goshala at Kyadala in Tumkur Rural Assembly Constituency.

Thereafter, the CM and DyCM left for Bangalore while Yeddyurappa resumed his journey.  Yeddyurappa also paid visit to the goshalas in Koratagere, Madhugiri and Pavagada taluks and interacted with the farmers.

Meanwhile, JD(S) leaders in Tumkur bestowed up on Yeddyurappa the title of ‘farmers leader’ (raitha nayaka) .

He was given the title after he gate crashed in to a protest rally organised by the farmers at Tovinakere in Koratagere Assembly Constituency which was represented by Dr G Parameshwara, the KPCC president.

The rally was organised against the BJP government for ignoring their issues.

A couple of days ago the police had booked some farmers for allegedly breaking the pipeline which was carrying the Hemavathy river water to Koratagere town.

During the protest BSY said: “Our government had erred on this count by delaying the project. I support your demand and will ask the irrigation minister to take steps to implement the project".

What's your reaction?
