BANGALORE: Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa thrice shifted in three days the time for tendering his resignation, keeping his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on tenterhooks and apparently buying time to force it to accept his terms.Late Friday, the 68-year-old first BJP chief minister in south India said in a statement he will resign July 31 "forenoon".On Saturday, he changed it to July 31 "afternoon".On Sunday, Yeddyurappa told a public meeting around 1 p.m., he will go directly from there to Raj Bhavan to submit his resignation to Governor H.R. Bhardwaj. The Raj Bhavan confirmed that Yeddyurappa has sought appointment to meet Bhardwaj between 2.30 p.m. and 3 p.m.There was no sign of him at Raj Bhavan at 3 p.m. and the word spread he is holding back the resignation, demanding that party first announce his nominee as chief minister. Then there was speculation that he may quit only after 6 p.m. as between 4.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. it was "Rahu Kaalam", considered highly inauspicious according to Hindu calendar. To the relief of BJP, Yeddyurappa again changed the plan and left his official residence on the busy Race Course Road to walk to Raj Bhavan, about half-a-km away, around 3.45 p.m., to finally submit the resignation, 38 months after assuming office.
