Here's Dr Hamid's message after being awarded by CNN-IBN

Honoured Guests and Friends,

For the past 52 years, I have been actively involved with the pharmaceutical industry and Cipla. I can truthfully say that Chemistry runs in my blood. This prestigious award is a testament to the ideals I have fought for and fiercely defended inspite of all odds, always keeping in mind as to what is best for India.

There has always been a deep bond between Cipla, India and myself. The seeds for this were first sown way back in 1939 when Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation visited Cipla and stressed on us the need for self-sufficiency and self-reliance. It was the time of the 2nd world war and the supply of medicines from Europe had completely stopped. We realized at that early stage in our history that it was vital for India to produce it's own medicines to safeguard the healthcare needs of the country.

During the span of my career in Cipla, I have seen the indigenous Pharma industry evolve into now being called the "Pharmacy Capital of the World", responsible for the health needs of billions of people. We have built up an enviable reputation for Quality, Reliability and Sustainability of production. India is not only self-sufficient, but is also a leading exporter of drugs worldwide. This award is not a recognition of my achievements alone. It is an acknowledgement of the dedication, hard work and effort of all my fellow colleagues in Cipla, both past and present. Their contribution has made Cipla a household name in India and a respected brand internationally.

It is also an opportunity for me to reiterate Cipla's ongoing commitment to India's development. We are the custodians of India's future healthcare. We strongly believe that access to vital, life saving medicines at affordable prices is a basic human right and that none should be denied.

The overall success of a Company does not depend only on a healthy balance sheet, but on it's capacity and capability to discharge it's moral and social obligations to society. We hope that our humble contributions will give value and quality to the lives of future generations.

Thank you
