New Delhi: The much awaited 5-day-fashion extravaganza began with a bang on Wednesday! From Varun Bahl's magical opening show to Shantanu and Nikhil's dreamy couture; the tone for the event has definitely been set right!
Varun Bahl rendered quite a wintry opening to the 27th edition of Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2016 on Wednesday with his jungle-themed collection. What started out as a nature-based canvas turned the evening into a pleasing sight with various motifs in action. Using patterns such as owls, flowers and everything that can be termed as metaphors of nature; the designer presented his collection titled ‘Nocturne’ on the first day.
From tunics to short dresses; his collection featured ensembles of all kinds. The colour palette of his collection showcased hues from every dimension of flora and fauna; from vintage wallpaper patterns to tropical forests. Teal, olive, lead-green, gold and fuchsia were some of the common sights in his show.
Keeping the magic alive, the next designer to showcase a visually appealing collection was Gaurav Jai Gupta's Akaaro. ‘Mumuksha’ featured hand-woven reversible fabrics developed in fine blends of merino wool, cotton, zari and stainless steel. While it featured separate collections for men and women; both managed to reconcile the contradictions in their own unique way.
Shantanu and Nikhil’s presentation was nothing short of a girl’s dream to say the least. Ranging from draped to ruffled gowns, it seemed as if the term glamour just got personified on the ramp! Known for their dramatic textures and flattering silhouettes, the duo made a comeback at AIFW after two years and needless to say, they were marvelous! Shades of beige, pastels and plum dominated the collection.
Another duo to have set the ramp ablaze with their collection on the first day was Hemant and Nandita’s line up featuring stiletto boots, pleated skirts with quite a lot of botanical prints. What a high-octane performance on the runway!
'Silver' presented by Kolkata-based designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh rendered an indelible mark on the viewers. While she made use of Tibetan and Mongolian jewellery motifs, her collection had a tinch of tribal fashion.
Ruffles, silhouettes and everything that accentuated Rina Dhaka's experimentation on ramp was indeed a visual delight. Her collection was based on knitwear stitch fabrics. From dark wintry colors to light hues of pastels; every shade was put to a good use.
Another noteworthy and definitely thought-provoking show was that of Gaurav Gupta. The designer presented a collection 'Melt' that aimed to focus on climatic changes in a delightful way. While some of the garments were strictly based on zero-waste philosophy, others had minimal wastage of fabrics.
Hemant and Nandita's 'Dark Enchantress' incorporated romantic silhouette touches to the collection that mainly featured V necklines, high slits and strappy shoulders.
While day 1 had some of the most exquisite designs in store for the audience, it'll be interesting to see how the upcoming days turn out to be. Guess it's just the right time to soak oneself in fashion with these outfits!
