Makar Sankranti is an auspicious Hindu harvest festival celebrated across India in January. Generally, it is celebrated a day after Lohri; this year, it will be celebrated on Monday, January 15, 2024. As per Drik Panchang, the Sankranti tithi will be at 2:45 am on January 15, 2024. The festival holds special significance for Hindus as on this day, many take baths, donate and worship to seek blessings of God.

Bhopal-based astrologer and palmist Vinod Soni Poddar suggests performing puja on this occasion is important. He also suggested that many auspicious yog are being formed on this special day, and performing puja during such times will benefit you. According to the expert, the Makar Sankranti auspicious time will be from 7:15 am to 5:44 pm. The Maha Punya Kaal will be from 7:15 am to 9:00 am spanning an hour and 54 minutes. Ravi Yog will form from 07:15 am to 8:07 am.

The astrologer suggested a few benefits of donating on the day of Makar Sankranti. Vinod Soni Poddar believes that by donating things on this auspicious occasion, one can get relief from the troubles and sorrows of life. One will be able to find happiness as well. As per the scriptures, donations on this day can get you the blessings of the Sun God and Shani Dev. People generally donate food items like sesame seeds, jaggery and khichdi.

One can also attain happiness by distributing khichdi on the day of Makar Sankranti. Donating and distributing Khichdi is believed to bring happiness and peace to the household. Donating sesame seeds and jaggery is considered to be special. One can attain respect and see financial gain. If the position of the Sun and Saturn is affecting you negatively, then donate jaggery and sesame seeds for a positive impact.

If the position of Saturn is influencing your horoscope negatively, the expert suggests filling a copper vessel with black sesame seeds and donating it to poor people or a Brahmin. This way, one can seek the blessings of Shani Dev. Food grains are also donated to Brahmins and please Maa Annapurna. Doing such an act is believed that there will never be any shortage of food at your house. Another food item which can be donated on this day is salt. It is believed that donating salt destroys all evils and bad energy can be averted. Ghee too is donated on this day as it is believed to keep you healthy. One can also seek the blessings of Goddess Mahalakshmi.

As per Shiva Purana, clothes donated on this day are considered to be a kind deed. Apart from seeking blessings, you will remain healthy and be protected from any disease. The expert also suggests donating a black blanket to poor people. It is also believed to please Shani Dev.

If one is facing a financial crunch, then donating rice, milk and curd on this day can result in the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
