What could be said about Bombay that hasn't been said before? Some people call it the city that never sleeps, while others believe that if you’ve once lived in Mumbai, no other city would be good enough for you ever.
The thought that one can take a person out of Bombay but never Bombay out of a person is enough to confirm the addiction that this city carries. Out of the long list of places that connects you to this city of dreams, Marine Drive tops the list for most part of it.
For the uninitiated, Marine drive is a 4.3-kilometer-long stretch in South Mumbai which has a natural bay by the side. Flanked by Chowpatty beach on one side and Nariman Point on the other, this road is indeed a spectacular vision at any hour of the day. No wonder, it is also known as Queen’s Necklace!
And the popular quote, "Marine Drive is the mirror to our soul. We all come here to gaze at the endless ocean and look within" perfectly captures the essence of this iconic pride of the city.
What makes Marine Drive stand out from the other hotspots is that every Mumbaikar has a completely different set of memories attached to it. A place that has witnessed a lot of 'happy and sad', 'first and last' moments for people in superlative numbers is sure to give an emotional surge to most of them.
From first dates to final break ups, this has been a constant element for what people call their lives. No matter what time of the day it is, this place sees and probably feels too now, thousands of emotions everyday. From people selling 'Chawpatty ki bhelpuri chaat' to artists giving lives to their creative imagination, this has indeed witnessed it all.
Be it casual strolls, late night gorging on icecreams, sitting by the sea and gazing at it, admiring the beauty, delving deeper into inner thoughts or just to have a gala time with loved ones, this place provides a bucket full of moments. With the backdrop of melancholy music created as the waves hit the shore, it is just the right place for every age and phase of life.
With Marine drive completing 100 years of being the icon that it is, we bring you a collection of posts from social media that truly justifies the glory this place has been endowed with.
