The Malayalam film industry is going through a controversial phase as the Hema Committee report has exposed deplorable working conditions for women, unchecked misuse of power and abuse. Many survivors have come forward with allegations against noted personalities ever since the report was made public. Actress Geetha Vijayan recounted her own traumatic experiences with actor Thulasidas, claiming she endured similar harassment and took a stand against it, which seemingly resulted in her being sidelined from numerous films. Geetha accused Thulasidas of persistently harassing her during the filming of his 1991 movie Chanchattam, frequently disturbing her by incessantly ringing her hotel room doorbell. She recalled that when she confronted him, he fled, but later retaliated by acting vindictively.
Geetha mentioned that the director even refused to explain scenes to her and threatened to have her blacklisted from the industry.
The surprising thing is actress Sridevika also recounted a similar ordeal with Thulasidas during the shooting of the film Avan Chandiyude Makan. She said that the director used to knock on the door of her hotel room late at night repeatedly. She also shared that after this incident, Thulasidas started retaliating against her, behaving inappropriately during filming and even reducing her scenes and lines.
Thulasidas has denied the allegations, stating that Geetha Vijayan and the other actors had a positive experience during the filming of Chanchattam and that he never knocked on her door. He also noted that actor Siddique, who has been accused of rape, frequently visited his room late at night to “discuss the script.” Thulasidas also dismissed Sridevika’s claims, suggesting that she might be retaliating because he had once reprimanded her on set. “I scolded her one day for taking an hour to change clothes. Perhaps she held a grudge because of that,” he told the media. He added that Babu Janardhanan could confirm whether or not he had cut Sridevika’s scenes in Avan Chandiyude Makan.
