Anurag Kashyap said that Hindi cinema is controlled by people who have not lived life.

With the rise in popularity of pan-India films, the debate about films made in the South vs Hindi films is at its peak. Recently, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap opened up about the difference between filmmakers in the southern industry and the filmmakers in Bollywood. His interview has gone viral on social media.

Speaking to Galatta Plus, Anurag said, “Down South, filmmakers are coming in from all directions, all walks of life, all cultures… There are diverse voices. You would not imagine that Lokesh (Kanagraj) would become this Lokesh. The industry is such that people will continue walking in from all walks of life.”

“Here, cinema is largely controlled by those people, and that too second generation, that has grown up in trial rooms. They have not lived life. So, their referencing is based on cinema. So what is not on screen, can’t be cinema to them,” he added.

One person commented, “This is so true. Literally, all the top positions in every production house have become experiment jobs for these nepo kids and their friends.” However, another wrote, “Kashyap says something and then does the complete opposite of that. He is not clear in his mind.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Anurag’s last directorial venture was Kennedy, headlined by Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat. It was selected as the closing film for the 14th iteration of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). The film was screened at the closing night in Melbourne on August 20 last year. Earlier, the film was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a seven-minute standing ovation from the audience. Kennedy follows the life of a long-thought-to-be-dead, insomniac ex-cop who finds himself entangled in a corrupt system while seeking redemption. With its gripping narrative and powerful performances, the film promises to be an unforgettable cinematic experience for audiences.
