Talking about the rising trend of Deepfake videos, Bhumi Pednekar emphasised that it not only constitutes a violation of privacy but also infringes upon fundamental rights and safety.

The emergence of AI-generated Deepfake technology has raised serious concerns, impacting Bollywood actresses such as Alia Bhatt, Rashmika Mandanna, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif in recent months. These celebrities have found themselves unwitting victims of this disturbing trend, with AI-generated videos featuring them going viral on social media. Bhumi Pednekar, currently immersed in promoting her upcoming release Bhakshak, has joined fellow celebrities in expressing deep concern over the unsettling rise of deepfake videos.

In an interview with India Today, she shared her discomfort regarding these alarming incidents and labelled them as an “invasion of privacy.” The actress also conveyed her empathy towards those who have experienced such distressing situations and hopes for effective solutions to address this growing issue.

The Thank You for Coming actress said, “It is not just a breach of one’s privacy but also basic rights and safety especially as a woman. I can’t even imagine what it must feel like to see such inappropriate usage of imagery of yours in public. It’s such a violation and to anybody who has gone through this experience, my heart really goes out to you and I truly, truly hope there is a solution which is hard and strong and is implemented right away.”

Previously, Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, currently engaged in the promotion of their upcoming film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, shared their perspectives on deepfake technology. In a conversation with the same portal, Kriti drew attention to the prevalence of numerous morphed videos circulating and voiced her concerns about the rapid pace of technological advancement. The actress also speculated about the possibility of AI partnerships becoming a reality in the coming years.

Shahid highlighted that people are responsible for the problems in the world and then they blame it on artificial intelligence. Shahid pointed out the inclination of individuals to present an altered version of reality on social media, leading to comparisons and ultimately, contributing to feelings of depression.

In the case of Rashmika Mandanna’s AI deepfake video that circulated in November 2023, the Delhi Police made an arrest in January 2024. The accused, identified as a B-Tech graduate from Andhra Pradesh, was held in connection with the creation of the fake video of the actress.

Meanwhile, Bhumi Pednekar starrer Bhakshak also features Sanjay Mishra, Sai Tamhankar, Durgesh Kumar, Vibha Chhibber and others in key roles. The movie is set to release on Netflix on February 9.
