Megastar Chiranjeevi is all set to receive one of the prestigious honours, the Akkineni National Award. The announcement was made during the centenary celebrations of Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR). As per the reports, the award ceremony will take place on October 28. Bollywood’s iconic star, Amitabh Bachchan will be gracing the event as the chief guest to present the award to the Waltair Veerayya actor. Akkineni Nagarjuna, the son of ANR announced this exciting news, which left Chiranjeevi’s fans quite ecstatic. At the press meet of the ANR 100 film festival, Nagarjuna said, “We’ve decided to present the award to Chiranjeevi garu this year. When I revealed this to him, he felt happy and emotional. He thanked us for considering him and was even more touched because this is happening during the centenary year.”
Chiranjeevi recently shared a photo with ANR and shared a heartfelt note on X. He wrote, “Remembering the legendary ANR, Akkineni Nageswara Rao garu, one of the greatest actors of all time on his 100th birth anniversary. An acting genius and A doyen of Cinema, ANR Garu’s memorable performances remain etched in the hearts and minds of Telugu audiences. His contributions to cinema are unparalleled. I had the privilege and good fortune of sharing screen space with him in the film ‘Mechanic Alludu’. I feel greatly enriched by the experience and cherish those moments and his wonderful memories forever. “

On September 20, Friday, the celebrations were held in Hyderabad to mark the 100 years of ANR. It was hosted at the RK Cineplex and was graced by the who’s who of industry, including Nagarjuna, his family members, renowned director Raghavendra Rao and others. A grand function will be held by the Akkineni family to honour Chiranjeevi. The ceremony will be part of the ANR 100 film festival celebration.
At the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) which will take place in November, a video of Nagarjuna’s film journey will be screened. A few special videos of ANR and other legends like Raj Kapoor are being made.
The Akkineni International Foundation introduced the ANR National Award in 2006. The award is meant to be given annually to honour people for their lifetime achievements and contributions to the Indian film industry. The first actor to get the award was the late Bollywood star, Dev Anand. Amitabh Bachchan too has been a recipient of the award. Other winners include Shabana Azmi, Anjali Devi, Jayasudha, Vyjayanthimala, Lata Mangeshkar, K Balachander, Hema Malini, Shyam Benegal, Gudipoodi Srihari, SS Rajamouli, Sridevi, and Rekha.
