Tamil star Kamal Haasan has occasionally dabbled in movies from other industries as well. Apart from appearing in films in all four South Indian languages, he has also appeared in Hindi and Bengali films. One particular Telugu film of his that attained cult status upon release was the 1986 film Swathi Muthyam. The movie had Kamal Haasan play a simpleton with a mental disability that resulted from a brain injury. The movie documented his journey from a young man to an elderly senior citizen, learning various lessons of life along the way. Swathi Muthyam was a big success and hence was later dubbed also in Tamil with the title Sippikkul Muthu.
Swathi Muthyam has a connection with a huge pan-India Telugu star of contemporary times. The actor played an uncredited cameo appearance as a child actor in Swathi Muthyam. His role was small but one that was integral to the plot of the film. In the film, the climax shows Kamal Haasan’s character having grown old and witnessing the death of his wife, whom he had taken care of for years. He walks out of his house surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
One of the grandchildren was none other than a 5-year-old Allu Arjun who later went on to become one of the biggest stars of Telugu cinema. Kamal Haasan is seen carrying Allu Arjun in his lap while moving out of the house in the scene. This is also the only time Kamal Haasan and Allu Arjun shared screen space. A year before this film, Allu Arjun had appeared as a child actor in Vijetha starring Chiranjeevi, which was produced by his father Allu Aravind.
Allu Arjun became a pan-India star with the 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise which did phenomenal business worldwide. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the sequel titled Pushpa: The Rule.
