One of the most alarming incidents occurred during the shooting of his action-packed film Valimai. His orthopaedic surgeon Dr Naresh Padmanabhan once revealed that the actor came dangerously close to paralysis due to injuries he sustained while performing risky stunts.

In the film Valimai, released in February 2022, Ajith played a role that required extensive motorcycle stunts and showcased his passion for motorsports. During the shooting, he suffered several injuries, especially to his spine.

As per a report in the Indian Express, Dr Padmanabhan explained that Ajith underwent a two-level cervical discectomy, which removed a bone that was pressing on his nervous system. He also suffered a fracture in his lower back, which put him on the verge of paralysis.

He said, “If he survives today despite all this, it is thanks to the doctors.”

Over the years, Ajith has sustained numerous injuries during filming, leading to multiple surgeries on his back, shoulders and knees. His quest for realism in the action sequences has often resulted in serious physical consequences. Dr Padmanabhan expressed fear that Ajith’s stunts may create unrealistic expectations among his fans and urged them not to imitate his dangerous actions in real life. He shared that while Ajith’s performances are meant to convey a message of resilience and show that one can get back up after a fall, the reality of such stunts is fraught with dangers.

He said, “People have just seen a shot of an actor falling in ‘Valimai’. But around four or five times he got injured while doing stunts on a bike. He wanted to convey a positive message through his films. The message is that even if you fall, you can get up again.”

For the unversed, Ajith Kumar performed all the stunts in his film Valimai without a body double. Meanwhile, the actor is gearing up for his film titled Good Bad Ugly. The film is slated to release on Pongal 2025. The film will star Trisha Krishnan in the lead role. Further details about the film are not yet known.
