In February last year, the makers shared a teaser which showcased Manisha Koirala looking stunning in a royal getup, followed by similar smiling glimpses of the rest of the cast. It unveiled the royal, graceful looks of actresses Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Shaikh as their characters.

The historical drama series transports audiences to a time when courtesans reigned as monarchs. Through the stories of courtesans and their clients, set against the turbulent backdrop of the Indian Independence struggle in the 1940s, the series investigates the cultural reality of the namesake area of Heera Mandi.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s last film Gangubai Kathiawadi was a biographical drama film starring Alia Bhatt. The film not only achieved critical acclaim but was also the fifth highest-grossing film of 2022. Besides Alia Bhatt, the film also featured Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, Seema Pahwa, Varun Kapoor, and Jim Sarbh.

The filmmaker will now reportedly take a brake from his signature period films. He recently signed Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal and Ranbir Kapoor for a film called Love And War. While much is not know about the project, it was reported that it will be a love story and will not be a period drama.
