Is Anushka Sharma's Phillauri Copied From Tim Burton's Corpse Bride?
While Tim Burton’s animation has dark undertones, Phillauri is set in Punjab and looks far more colourful.

Anushka Sharma’s Phillauri has been garnering a lot of appreciation ever since the film’s first trailer came out. The film, directed by Anshai Lal, narrates the story of a manglik boy played by Suraj Sharma who is forced to get married to a tree before he can marry his fiancé. Turns out that the tree he is married to, is inhabited by a ghost called Shashi (Anushka Sharma) who now feels married to this man. The couple then find out the spirit's past and how she died.

The film’s trailer is witty and quite entertaining and has been loved by one and all. But the film also bears a striking resemblance to Tim Burton’s animation Corpse Bride that released way back in 2005. The film had Johnny Depp engaged to Emily Watson. Hours before their wedding, Depp’s character gets cold feet, runs to the nearby forest and accidentally puts the ring on a tree bark which turns out to be the ghost of a bride played by Helena Bonham Carter then later tells the couple on how she was murdered.

While Tim Burton’s animation has dark undertones, Phillauri is set in Punjab and looks far more colourful. But the stories are truly quite similar. Here are the trailers of both the films. You judge for yourself if Anushka’s film is a copy of the Hollywood film.
