Jaya Bachchan Slams Uttarakhand CM Over 'Ripped Jeans' Remark, Says 'You'll Decide Who's Cultured?'
Jaya Bachchan criticised Tirath Singh Rawat's statement, saying that it is a bad mindset that will encourage crimes against women.

After her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda, actress-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan has come down heavily on Uttarakhand chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat over his comments that wearing ripped jeans is not Indian culture but aping of the West. “Showing bare knees by wearing ripped jeans just to look like rich kids is the value given now which is just a race towards westernisation when the Western world today is following us. Ripped jeans pave the way for societal breakdown and is a bad example parents set for children,” he said. Now, Jaya has slammed Rawat for propagating “a bad” mindset.

Speaking to ANI, she said, “Such statements don’t befit a CM. Those on higher posts must think & make public statements. You say such things in today’s times, you’ll decide who’s cultured and who’s not based on clothes! It’s a bad mindset and encourages crimes against women.” Other than Jaya Bachchan, her granddaughter Navya Naveli also took a dig at Rawat over his controversial statement, writing, “Change your mentality before changing our clothes because the only shocking here is the message comments like this send to society.”

Navya also shared a throwback picture of herself wearing a pair of ripped jeans and said, “I’ll wear my ripped jeans. Thank you. And I’ll wear them proudly.”
