Music pioneer and accomplished British drum and bass DJ, Randall McNeil, aka, DJ Randal recently passed away. The news of his death was confirmed by his representative. At the age of 54, the singer who was also known as the Godfather of Breakbeat breathed his last on July 31. No official cause of death has been revealed yet. The news of his demise has sent shockwaves in the music industry, while his fans and well-wishers paid their last respects or gave him a tribute on social media.
DJ Randall shot to fame in the 90s alongside British DJ partners Fabio and Grooverider. Before joining Centreforce in 1989, he appeared on pirate radio stations like Rave FM and Rinse FM which earned him popularity. The internet is now filled with posts of colleagues and fans of the DJ.
A fan wrote, “So many of us were inspired and influenced by this amazing DJ. This is going to leave an unfillable hole in the scene, I can’t imagine flyers without his name on it.
RIP RANDALL.” Another commented, “This cut from AWOL in London Aug 93 is one of my favourite sets of all time. Kenny vs Randall. RIP” Another chimed in, “Randall A true master of the craft. Our heart aches with the whole scene and our deepest condolences to his family & friends. He was the DJ’s DJ, but also one of the most genuine people in the game. Rest in peace, Ran.”
He was exposed to Acid House music in the year 1987 at Notting Hill Carnival. He got introduced to buying records and listening to DJs and soon came up with his style. He learned to mix music in just a week. Later, Randall and Cool Hand Flex co-founded the record label Mac2 Recordings in 1996. His fame continued to grow and his talent was noticed by all. He became a regular at The Blue Note Club with musicians with Goldie and DJ Storm.
In 1994, he produced the greatest percussion track Sound Control with Andy C from Ram Records. More than a producer, the musician was better recognised as a DJ.
