Mahesh Babu’s wife, Namrata Shirodkar, was a popular actress in Bollywood in the 90s. She officially debuted in 1998 with the movie Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai. However, she was initially set to make her lead debut alongside Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty in Purab Ki Laila Aur Bassim Ki Chaila. This film was never released. Back then, Namrata did an AMA with her fans on Rediff and one person asked if Akshay had flirted with her.
During Namrata Shirodkar’s AMA, one fan asked if Akshay Kumar had ‘hit on’ her. The actress gave a cryptic reply and wrote, “Acting opposite Akshay is great fun.” In recent years, celebrities have started to understand the importance of their digital footprints as netizens often dig up old interviews and discuss them on microblogging sites. Namrata’s old AMA has caught everyone’s attention now after a section of it went viral on Reddit recently.
The actress was also asked to give her opinion about Sridevi. Namrata said that while she had not met Sridevi, she’d heard that the actress was “frigid as ice”. Namrata also wrote about Madhuri Dixit during the AMA and mentioned, “Madhuri from what I know of her is very friendly but is a mummy’s girl!! That’s all the scoop I can give you. But, she’s a great actress!!” The two actresses were seen together in the 2000 film, Pukar.
Namrata began her Bollywood journey in 1977 as a child actor in the Shatrughan Sinha film Shirdi Ke Sai Baba. After her official debut in Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai, she followed it up with films with average business like Mere Do Anmol Ratan and Hero Hindustani.
Her big breakthrough came with the crime drama Vaastav opposite Sanjay Dutt, which was both critically acclaimed and a box-office success. The song Meri Duniya Hai Tujhme Kahin picturised on her, became very popular. She was unable to replicate that success in her future projects. Her subsequent films did not perform well, failing to achieve the anticipated success. In the six years of her film career, 16 films in which she acted turned out to be flops.
Namrata Shirodkar is widely known today as Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu’s wife. Namrata Shirodkar tied the knot with Mahesh Babu in 2005 after dating for five years. She completely gave up acting after marriage as the actor did not want a working wife. They have two children, Gautam Ghattamaneni and Sitara Ghattamaneni. Namrata now resides in Hyderabad with her family.
