Nikkhil Advani, known for his work on films like “Kal Ho Naa Ho” and the recently released “Vedaa,” has opened up about a memorable faux pas that occurred on the first day of shooting his film “Salaam-E-Ishq.” While promoting his latest film, Nikkhil recounted the moment when he mistakenly addressed Salman Khan as Shah Rukh Khan on the set, leading to a mix of amusement and tension.
In a recent appearance on the show “Aapka Apna Zakir,” Nikkhil shared the story of how Salman Khan came to his rescue after his fallout with Karan Johar post the success of “Kal Ho Naa Ho.” Salman, whom Nikkhil described as the “messiah” of the film industry, offered to star in his next film and backed him when he needed it the most. However, Nikkhil’s gratitude was put to the test on the very first day of shooting.
Recalling the incident, Nikkhil said, “It was the muhurat shot of ‘Salaam-E-Ishq,’ and the set was buzzing with energy. We had 500 junior artistes, 200 dancers, Bosco-Caesar choreographing, and of course, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra. As I looked at the monitor, I called out, ‘Shah Rukh, ready?’” The set went eerily quiet as everyone realised Nikkhil had just called Salman by the wrong name.
Salman, who is known for his quick wit, didn’t let the moment pass unnoticed. Nikkhil continued, “Salman gave me a look, and the entire set fell silent. Then, with a smirk, he responded, ‘Yeah Karan, I am ready.’” The whole set erupted in laughter, but it was a reminder of Nikkhil’s long history with Shah Rukh Khan, having worked with him on “Kal Ho Naa Ho” and assisted Karan Johar on films like “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” and “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.”
Despite the awkward start, Salman’s support was unwavering. Nikkhil had earlier mentioned in an interview with Galatta Plus that Salman prides himself on being a “messiah” in the industry. He recounted how, after his exit from Dharma Productions, Salman immediately reached out to him, saying, “Now you will work for me; you will make a film for me.”
