Padmavati Release Might Be Shifted To 2018, Reveal Sources Close to Makers
As protests against the film intensified over the alleged "distortion of history", producer Viacom18 Motion Pictures announced that it had "voluntarily deferred the release date of the film" from December 1.

In the latest development surrounding the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati, sources close to the makers have revealed to NDTV that the release of the film might just get postponed to 2018.

As protests against the film intensified over the alleged "distortion of history", producer Viacom18 Motion Pictures announced that it had "voluntarily deferred the release date of the film" from December 1. The studio did not say when the historical drama, featuring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh, will be released.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of IFFI 2017, CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi has said that the board will consult historians on Padmavati and its authenticity before giving out a certificate.

"CBFC has to take a neutral decision. So it can take 68 days. Generally, films take less than that but here the case is that is CBFC to be blamed that people are on streets to protest? If makers go ahead and show the film to media people, has that been done by CBFC? But you are expecting CBFC to take a well thought out decision. How is that possible? You are not even giving it space and the time," Joshi said.

The protests surround Bhansali's magnum opus refuse to end anytime soon. While fringe Rajput outfits are issuing threats against the director, many politicians and Ministers have also asked for a ban on film for hurting the sentiments of the entire Rajput community.
