Grammys 2024: Shankar Mahadevan and his fellow members from fusion band Shakti made India proud at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Shakti, a collaboration featuring John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan, V.Selvaganesh, and Ganesh Rajagopalan, was awarded the Grammy Award for their work, The Moment. The album has won Best Global Music Album. Shankar and his team members were present at the Grammys to accept the award. In a video gone viral, Shankar was seen thanking India for the win. Besides Shakti, India’s Rakesh Chaurasia also won two awards — Global Music Performance and Contemporary Instrumental Album.
Meanwhile, Zakir Hussain also secured the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ Grammy for his contribution to ‘Pashto’ alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia.
Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate the awardees. In a video gone viral, Shankar Mahadevan was also seen thanking India for the win. “John Mclaughlin is missing today, we miss you John ji,” Shankar said, addressing John who couldn’t make it to the awards show. “Thank you boys, and thank you, God, family, friends and India, we are proud of you India,” he said, which resulted in a massive roar. “Last but not the least, I’d like to dedicated to award to my wife for whom my every note of music is dedicated to. Love you,” he added.
