Pokemon Developer Game Freak Suffers Major Data Breach: Report
According to reports, the Pokemon developer Game Freak suffered a massive data breach that led to the leak of vital information and game codenames.

Game Freak, the renowned developer behind the Pokémon video game series, has experienced a significant data breach, referred to as a ‘teraleak.’ This breach has resulted in the exposure of substantial employee records and information regarding upcoming projects. Recent reports indicate that a large amount of data has been made publicly available, purportedly taken from Game Freak studios. While specifics about the hacking incident and the perpetrators remain undisclosed, fans are now sifting through the leaked information for new insights into the future of Pokemon, including details about upcoming films.

According to ComicBook, Pokemon is toiling around for ideas for its 24th film, which has the codename Bauer. The film’s production originally began in 2021 with no developments so far. It was meant to drop; however, the release was pushed back indefinitely. Going by the latest leak, fans got their hands on a rough synopsis for the Pokemon film, which is said to be “darker.” Set in modern Kanto, the film will show Mew as the main mythical creature. It would tell the story of Light and Akari, who navigate the challenges of adolescence, including cyberbullying and suicidal thoughts.

The overall idea was to reboot the Pokemon universe to recapture the fans’ attention with a dark touch. This also hints toward an intense storyline in comparison to the first film, Pokemon: The First Movie. However, with no clear path yet, all bets are off about the film.

Other Pokemon Leaks

In another major reveal in the leak, it seems like Pokemon Legends Z-A is aiming for a 2025 release after its original 2024 window was delayed. There were several mentions of Generation 10 games, codenamed Gaia, K and N for various versions. On the other hand, Nintendo’s Switch 2 has been codenamed Ounce, followed by an unannounced game spinoff with the codename Synapse.

While official announcements about these films and games are yet to be made, Game Freak has apologised for the leaks and said, “Game Freak Inc. has discovered that personal information of employees and others was leaked in connection with unauthorized access to our server by a third party in August 2024. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused to all involved,” as quoted by CBR.
