Global icon Priyanka Chopra recently returned to the US with her husband Nick Jonas and daughter Malti Marie Jonas after spending quality time with her family. Without wasting any time, the Bajirao Mastani star has plunged back into her work, producing various projects through her production banner, Purple Pebble Pictures. Her latest endeavour is an intriguing documentary titled Born Hungry.
In a recent Instagram update, Priyanka Chopra announced her collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Barry Avrich, known for works like Prosecuting Evil, Madness of Method and Oscar Peterson: Black + White. The documentary tells the inspiring true story of a young individual from India who runs away and is adopted by a Canadian family, eventually becoming the chef-owner of one of Toronto’s trendiest restaurants.
Sharing the post, the actress wrote, “Aligning with stories and filmmakers that have the ability to move the audience by having a unique point of view is what we always look for at Purple Pebble Pictures. Barry Avrich’s new feature documentary, Born Hungry is exactly that. I was so moved by Sash’s incredible story of resilience and determination and also that it is an amazing rendition of an extremely sensitive story, it was a no-brainer for us to collaborate. We cannot wait to share this story with you.”

Talking about the documentary Born Hungry, Priyanka Chopra in an interview with Deadline stated that she was deeply fascinated by Sash’s story. She saw it as a wonderful chance not only to highlight India but also to document the journey and his strong desire to reunite with his family and discover his true self. Further, Priyanka highlighted that her production house is committed to using cinema to share stories from around the world that can change how people see things.
Meanwhile, the director Barry Avrich, also expressed his admiration for the rich storytelling tradition of India, as well as the vibrant nature of Bollywood. He shared that upon discovering Sash’s story, he was instantly moved by the intense emotions and depth of the story.
Born Hungry made its debut at the prestigious 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival and is scheduled to be screened at the Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto on April 26.
Other than producing Born Hungry, Priyanka Chopra is also backing numerous documentary films such as Disneynature’s film Tiger, To Kill A Tiger and Women Of My Billion.
