Punjab And Haryana High Court Clears 'Udta Punjab' For Release
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has cleared the release of the film.

In a relief to the makers of ‘Udta Punjab’, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has cleared the film for release. The Punjab State Women’s Commission had filed an intervention application at the HC regarding the release of the film. The Amicus Curiae has asked the HC to clear the film.

The State Women’s Commission had alleged that the film projected Punjab in a bad light. The Amicus was appointed to watch the film and in his report the Amicus has clearly stated that the film in no manner glorifies the usage of drugs in the state of Punjab. "The viewer is likely to empathize with the message the filmmaker is seeking to convey through 'Udta Punjab'," the report stated.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court had refused to stay the release of the film. An NGO had appealed to SC to issue stay order on the film and SC had allowed the NGO to approach the HC as a similar petition was being heard there.

Featuring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh, ‘Udta Punjab’ has been produced by Balaji Films and Phantom Films. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on 18th June.
