The best actors and films from the Tamil and Malayalam industries were awarded on Sunday.

The South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) were held over the weekend. While the winners from Telugu and Kannada were announced on Saturday, the best actors and films from the Tamil and Malayalam industries were awarded on Sunday.

Besides, a special award was presented in honour of the late Captain Vijayakanth, who not only played unique roles in Tamil films but also made an impact in politics and performed many great philanthropic deeds. Actors Arjun Sarja, Vikram, SJ Surya, Shivarajkumar, Sivakarthikeyan, Yogi Babu and director Nelson presented the award to Vijayakanth’s wife, Premalatha Vijayakanth.

In a career spanning four decades, Vijayakanth acted in over 150 films. He is known for his performances in Vaidehi Kathirunthal (1984), Amman Kovil Kizhakale (1986) and Poonthotta Kaavalkaaran (1988). He has won two Filmfare Awards South and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.

For his role in Senthoora Poove, Vijayakanth was awarded the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor in 1988. In 1996, he was awarded the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for his role in Thayagam.

Coming to the event, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nayanthara and Chiyaan Vikram emerged as the biggest winners of SIIMA 2024. Aishwarya and Vikram received the Best Actress and Best Actor (Critics Choice) award for their memorable performances in Ponniyin Selvan 2 in the Tamil industry.

Rajinikanth’s Jailer received the Best Film award. Tovino Thomas, on the other hand, won the Best Actor award in Malayalam in 2018. Anaswara Rajan won the Best Actress award for Neru.

Telugu actor Nani was seen walking barefoot in Dubai as he attended the SIIMA Awards 2024. In photos surfacing from the event on Saturday, Nani was seen wearing an all-black outfit and walking through the hotel lobby barefoot. His attire hinted that he was following the rituals of the Sabarimala temple in Kerala. Nani was surrounded by his team as he made his way to the elevator.

Later in the evening, Nani was presented with the Best Actor Award for his performance in Dasara. The actor walked up the stage barefoot and accepted the award from Vijay Deverakonda. He then joined his team of Hi Nanna as the film also won a couple of awards.
