The Penguin Is The 'Entry Point' To Batman Sequel, Says Matt Reeves
The filmmaker confirmed that Colin Farrell's Penguin will be seen in Batman II.

The Batman Part II may not be coming out soon, but there are some exciting updates on the way. Part II will be the second in Matt Reeves’ Batman movie trilogy, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. The director recently spilled beans about the sequel, confirming that the infamous Oswald “Oz” Cobb, aka The Penguin (Colin Farell), will be featured in the sequel. The announcement comes days after The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc hinted that the HBO series would link the first and second Batman films.

Speaking to SFX Magazine, Matt Reeves said, “Colin will be part of the movie. We’ve shared the script as we’ve been going with DC and the studio, and they’re super excited.” The director said they will start the shooting in early 2025.

The Penguin’s Connection To Batman II

Reeves explained the dynamics of The Penguin and the show’s connection with Batman Part 2. Noting that it is the “entry point” into the sequel, Reeves added, “There are details that connect right into the way the next movie begins, and the way that Oz enters that world as we hand the baton back to Batman, and Batman is on another case.”

The filmmaker also said his crime saga across films and series presents Gotham in the real way as it is. “It’s such a brutal place, and we’re digging for the answers as to why these people’s lives are this way,” he added.

What To Expect In Batman 2?

The sequel will dig deeper into corruption and places after Batman investigates the controversy involving Carmine Falcone and his link to the Waynes.

“The seeds of where this goes are all in the first movie, and it expands in a way that will show you aspects of the character you never got to see. Batman is constantly battling these forces. But those forces can’t be entirely exorcised. So the next movie delves deeper into that,” he added. Amid fans’ demand to bring more Batman villains into the sequel, Reeves has ruled out the Gentleman Ghost.

The Batman universe is all set for a wider expansion with HBO’s upcoming Farrell-centric series, The Penguin. It premieres on September 19.
