The Princess Diaries 3: Anne Hathaway Says Film’s Development Is In A ‘Good Place’
Anne Hathaway hinted in an interview that while there's no prominent information to share, progress on The Princess Diaries 3 is in a "good place".

Anne Hathaway’s performance as Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries film series lives in our mind rent-free. The comedy-drama struck the right chord with the masses and the two movies turned out to be commercially successful ventures. Last year, Disney took film enthusiasts by a sweet surprise by announcing that The Princess Diaries 3 was in the making. The audience would once again witness Anne Hathaway reprising her role as Mia. In a recent interview, The Idea Of You actress shared that the third installment was in a “good place" but she refrained from commenting on the much-anticipated release date announcement.

In an interaction with V Magazine, when the interviewer questioned Anne Hathaway on the possibility of The Princess Diaries’ third sequel, the actress gave a befitting reply. “We’re in a good place. That’s all I can say. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place," she asserted. In the same conversation, she heaped praise on the film’s director Garry Marshall. “He valued my take on being a teenage girl and elevated me to such a valued status on set that it never occurred to me on other sets that I didn’t have that same autonomy, or that same ability to collaborate," she said.

Back in November 2022, when Disney confirmed The Princess Diaries 3, Anne Hathaway wished to work with her on-screen grandmother Julie Andrews who essayed the role of Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the previous two films. In an interaction with Entertainment Tonight back then, Hathaway revealed, “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work." The Princess Diaries 3 is written by The Reacher and Supergirl scriptwriter Aadrita Mukerji.

Helmed by Garry Marshall, who passed away in 2016, The Princess Diaries released in 2001 was based upon a novel of the same title by Meg Cabot. It revolves around a shy and awkward teenager named Mia Thermopolis who discovers one day that she is the heir to the throne of the fictitious European kingdom of Genovia. Thus, she starts a process of grooming and making everyone believe that she is the rightful owner of the throne.
