Most of the stars from the Konidela family are known for their action packed larger-than-life persona on screen. Varun Tej has instead always been open to experimenting with his roles. His first film Mukunda was a romantic film with political undertones, an unusual debut vehicle for a starkid. The film did well at the box office and Varun’s performance was praised. After that, he came up with another unique movie Kanche, under the direction of Krish. The film was a period war drama set in the 1930s and 40s and had the Second World War as a backdrop. His next two films Loafer and Mister were box office duds. Varun Tej is now back with yet another experimental film titled Matka, which is unique in the sense that the narrative spans across 24 years, from the 1950s to the 80. Varun Tej will be seen in different looks to suit his increasing age in the film. Matka will also be his first pan-India film. With the shooting of the film still underway, Matka has already sold its audio rights for a substantial amount.
Aditya Music reportedly secured the audio rights for the period drama at a substantial cost of Rs 3.6 crore, marking the largest deal for Varun Tej’s films in terms of musical rights. The filmmakers are committed to capturing the period’s authentic feel through the soundtrack. To achieve this, they’ve assigned the musical composition to GV Prakash Kumar, whose score is anticipated to bring a rich, nostalgic essence to the film, in keeping with its theme.
Matka is based on a real incident that affected the country during the period of 1958-1982. Varun will be seen in four different getups in this periodical action thriller set in Vizag. It is anticipated that the film, which has already completed more than half of its shooting, will hit the screens at the end of this year.
