It’s been a week since the release of Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani’s film Dunki. The film has been garnering immense lovce and appreciation from fans and critics and the box office numbers are a proof of the same. While the film has already surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark, the film witnessed it’s second drop at the box office numbers on it’s 7th day. According to a report in Sacknilk, the film has reportedly earned 9.75 crore on its first Wednesday. How the leading actress of the Rajkumar Hiran directorial Taapsee Pannu praised SRK’s style of working and admitted that she was starstruck when she first started shooting with him.”
During an interaction with Connect FM Canada, Taapsee shared, “Just like Bachchan sir, Shah Rukh sir loves to rehearse. He likes to rehearse a scene to the point that he is one with the dialogue and it becomes a part of his muscle memory. He is a theatre actor who became a film actor. So his way is more like going about rehearsing. And he is a trained actor also so our methods are quite opposite.”
She added, “Even another female actor might never get the opportunity to work in such a commercial film, which is a love story with Shah Rukh Khan. This was once in a lifetime. Even though I knew that my limitation is to only give 2-3 takes, I really pushed. I was like even if he rehearses 50 times, I need to get energy and fuel from somewhere to keep going and I actually did.”
Taapsee also revealed she was star struck by the actor’s presence, ““I remember the first day, when I had to look at him and perform, I would just zone out mid take. Because what I am seeing in front of my eyes is the same visual that I have seen on the big screen for years. There were so many times that it took a little effort for me to mentally get my focus back into present. I don’t know if sir realised it or not. Or even if he did, I am glad that he did not bring it up to make me feel even more awkward but I got through that phase pretty soon because I realised that how once in a lifetime opportunity this can be for someone like me,” she stated.
Dunki marked the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani. The story revolves around a group of friends wanting to move abroad, highlighting their challenges on the unique journey known as the Donkey Flight.
News18 Showsha has given the film a 4-star rating and praised Shah Rukh’s performance. “What keeps Dunki afloat is Shah Rukh Khan. After watching him turn into an action hero with Pathaan and Jawan, it’s refreshing to see him do something that allows him to flex his acting muscles. SRK brings a rare vulnerability, honesty, and earnest dignity to his character. His innocence and charm win us over with sheer heart and it is this heart that counts in a Hirani movie. This is one of the most significant films of his career,” the review read.
