Dangal, starring Aamir Khan in the lead, paved the way for two new faces to make their Bollywood debut - Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra.

The 2016 Nitesh Tiwari directorial Dangal broke several box office records, winning millions of hearts. The film revolved around the real-life story of wrestler sisters Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat. Dangal, starring Aamir Khan in the lead, paved the way for two new faces to make their Bollywood debut. These newcomers were Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra. Both of them played the role of Aamir Khan’s on-screen daughters in the film. While Fatima played the role of Geeta Phogat, Sanya Malhotra essayed the character of Babita Phogat. After Dangal’s successful run in the theatres, Fatima and Sanya craved a place for themselves in the industry. Now, they are back on another film – Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur.

Speaking of working together again, Fatima said, “I think both of us would really excited to be part of the same film and of the same journey. Baaki toh humlog milte hee rehte hai ghar pe, aage peeche. But we are part of the same film aur woh wala jo feeling tha, that was overpowering.”

Sanya added that it’s always very emotional working with the person one debuted with. “We started off together. Scooty pe jaatey the Dangal ka audition dene saath mein. At that time, I was also auditioning for Geeta Phogat’s role. So, we were like, ‘Mera nahi huya toh tera ho jayega’. We complete 7 years in the industry and it feels very nice, to be honest.”

“We’ve seen each other since struggling days to kaam milne se, phir Dangal milne se, we have done it together. I think it is very important to have your partner in crime with you. Then you feel you have somebody. I think I’m very lucky that I have that person in my life,” added Fatima.

Sam Bahadur revolves around Sam Manekshaw, played by Vicky Kaushal, who served as the Chief of the Army Staff during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. The story chronicles his journey as the first Indian Army officer to achieve the rank of field marshal.
