When Mark Hamill unleashes his goofy side, we just cannot control our laughter. The same happened when the Hollywood actor dropped a picture with his on-screen ‘mother’ from Star Wars, Natalie Portman on Instagram. Hamill and Portman attended the star-studded Golden Globes Award ceremony this year. The event was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles on January 7. While Portman was nominated for her film May December, Hamill presented the maiden award in the cinematic box office achievement category. The duo’s picture bearing a Star Wars reference has now grabbed the eyeballs of the masses, especially because it was their official first meet-up.
“Now I have finally met my ‘mother’, thanks to the Golden Globes,” read Mark Hamill’s hilarious caption. The photograph captured Hamill, dressed in a black suit posing with Natalie Portman. Both the celebrities sported beaming smiles for the click. Natalie was decked up in a shimmery silver dress, featuring multi-coloured sequin-work.

Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman’s meet and greet made Star Wars fans excited. Commenting on the post, Instagram wrote, “Ok this needs to be framed.” Expressing their disbelief, one user quipped, “They’ve never met previously??? no way.” “How has this not happened till now?” lamented another. Unable to control their happiness, someone else remarked, “You, sir, have made so many people happy today… and brought out the “comment genius” in a whole bunch too! Thank you so much!”

Although Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman were a part of the Star Wars franchise, they never featured in any of the films together. Presumably due to their hectic schedules, they did not even get the chance to meet each other in real life. While Hamill made his Star Wars debut with the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Portman’s maiden performance in the film series was with the 1999 George Lucas directorial Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.
Reacting to Natalie Portman’s birthday post back in 2018, Mark Hamill wrote, “I’ve never met this woman”. The post came out as a shock to fans who waited for over two decades for the two stars to meet. While speaking about the matter in an interview with Stephen Colbert, Portman said, “It’s such a shame, I would love to meet him. Mark, I would love to meet you, come over!” Now, fans can heave a sigh of relief.
FUN FACT: I've never met this woman. https://t.co/YYIFku1CVQ— Mark Hamill (@MarkHamill) June 9, 2018
Mark Hamill played the role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars whereas Natalie Portman essayed the role of his mother Padme Amidala who died while giving birth to his son.
