Working in Jawan was nothing less than working in two or three movies at the same time for music composer Anirudh Ravichander. Each character in the film comes with a different emotion and to portray that seamlessly through music was quite hard for Why This Kolaveri Di hitmaker. Anirudh who has been a Shah Rukh Khan fan for years always wished to begin his Bollywood career with the superstar, now finally landing the opportunity is nothing but a dream come true for him. During a recent interaction with Film Companion, Anirudh Ravichander candidly spoke about the challenges he faced when it comes to Jawan’s music.
He explained how there are back-to-back too many emotions rolling into play. During the train heist scene, Shah Rukh Khan gives out a villainistic vibe, and the mood changes completely during the farmer’s father and son’s story. Connecting audiences musically was not a piece of cakewalk. “It’s not like the movie is in a certain mood, and there’s an elevation and there’s a drop, no,” he said.
He continued, “So our job in Jawan or the main challenge in Jawan that we faced was how we are going to connect these things together musically so that it seems seamless for the audience.” For different characters, the composer drew inspiration from their emotions. Be it heroic tribal chants, cool tempo, or old-school rock with a modern twist, there’s a range of variations that help everything around to fall in place organically.
Not many know Anirudh is also a die-hard Kal Ho Na Ho fan. He has reportedly watched the film about seven times and cried every time the movie came to an end. “When I heard that SRK had heard my song for the first time, it was like a dream come true. I have been an SRK fan forever. When I was in the US, I watched Swades and it made me want to come back to India,” he said.
Directed by Alter, his first Hindi film ever, the high-octane action also features Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra besides SRK. Moreover, Deepika Padukone also makes a special cameo donning a saree but combating multiple goons.
