ICYMI: Richa Chadha's Mom Thought Ali Fazal Was Married And Had Two Kids

Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal have been married for a while now. Though the couple has kept their relationship very low-key and mostly hidden from teh media for a long time, their families have known it since the beginning. Richa recalls the hilarious incident that happened at her home when she informed her mother about her involvement with Ali. It led to a somewhat amusing mix-up.

In a recent discussion on the All About Eve podcast, Richa shared how her mother mistakenly believed Ali Fazal was married with two children and living in Lahore. The confusion arose because of another popular actor-singer named Ali Zafar whose name often gets confused with that of Ali Fazal. Ali Zafar, the Pakistani artist has appeared in Hindi films like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Dear Zindagi.

When Richa first mentioned her budding romance with Ali to her mother, it triggered a concerned phone call. Her mother expressed, “I don’t know if you’re aware, but he’s married with two kids." Richa, naturally taken aback, clarified the situation by explaining that her mother had confused Ali Fazal with Ali Zafar. When her mother finally met Ali Fazal, Richa says, she had a warm and positive response and also found him very good-looking.

Richa had often playfully mentioned that her extended family would frequently inquire about her marriage plans. When asked how she managed to answer these inquiries during the podcast, she humorously shared her method, saying, “Just date someone outside your faith. The questions will stop." She also emphasised that her parents never pressured her to get married.

Richa and Ali celebrated their wedding last year, in an intimate ceremony on October 2022. The couple had reportedly tied the knot in 2020, during the pandemic, under the Special Marriage Act. Talking about her marriage, in an exclusive interview with News18, she shared, “We got married under the Special Marriage Act, and the family court is right around the corner. And it was super peaceful. And I don’t think it’s out of the ordinary. It happens in society, which is why there is a very big act for it. Of course, I feel like media really makes these kinds of things, it’s actually terrible and is very corrosive for society."

Before their wedding, Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal had dated for almost a decade. The lovebirds had first met on the sets of Fukrey (2013) and that’s where their love blossomed. Richa and Ali are also reportedly set to appear in a documentary titled RiAlity, which focuses on their wedding.

On the work front, both Richa and Ali are currently seen on the big screen in their recently released comedy-drama Fukrey 3. Directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, the film is the third installment of the Fukrey franchise and the sequel to Fukrey Returns.
