Karan Johar Says SRK Was 'IRRITATED' During Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: 'He Hated Love Stories But...'
Karan Johar opened up about working with Shah Rukh Khan. The filmmaker began his journey as a director with SRK in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Karan Johar opened up about working with Shah Rukh Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in a new podcast when he revealed that the superstar was ‘irritated’ during the shoot. It is no secret that SRK always wanted to explore the action space. Even Aditya Chopra had mentioned SRK’s wish to pursue a career as an action hero during The Romantic documentary released earlier this year. In his new chat on the podcast, Karan revealed that Shah Rukh indeed wanted to explore action and was not keen becoming a romantic hero. In fact, Karan added SRK hated love stories.

“Shah Rukh hated love stories. He only wanted to be in action films. He didn’t want Adi (Aditya Chopra) to make Dilwale (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge). He was irritated I was making Kuch Kuch Hota Hai but then when these films worked, he didn’t say anything because he was like… you know ‘chadhte suraj ko salam’ (bow to the rising sun). If this love story is working, let’s go with it,” Karan said on Be A Man Yaar podcast.

He added that Shah Rukh has powerful eyes that could move everyone regardless of the gender. “He could launch a million love battles with those eyes. Unn aankhon ki masti ke mastaane hazaaron hain aur hamesha rahenge. Nobody else has those eyes. He has got ‘khuda ki aankhein’. When you see those eyes, you feel like he could make any human being weak-kneed, man, woman anyone, it doesn’t matter,” Karan said.

The filmmaker also spoke about the tear that emerges in Shah Rukh’s eyes during an emotional or romantic scene, something that his fans have often noticed and said that when the tear emerges, “you feel like fida ho gaye hain, prem kahani shuru ho gayi (now the love story has started).”

Karan Johar began his career as a director with SRK in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film recently completed 25 years and the filmmaker expressed his gratitude to Shah Rukh for helping kickstart his directorial career.
