A family escaped unhurt after a heavy under-construction metro slab allegedly fell near their two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Bhayandar on Wednesday night. The incident took place when a music composer, identified as Dilpreet Sethi, was travelling with his wife and an eight-year-old son near Maxus Mall.
Sethi, who is a complainant in the case, said he was returning home around 8:30 pm on his scooter with family when a heavy concrete slab from an under-construction metro site fell next to their two-wheeler.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the family escaped unhurt but got covered in cement.
The report quoted Sethi as saying, “It was a narrow escape. I told the police about what had happened and they have registered a complaint.” He also accused the contractor of the metro rail project for “not maintaining safety” which put his family’s life in danger.
“The family was not hurt but the three of them including the vehicle were covered in cement and other materials. They could have been killed if they were under the heavy slab,” senior police inspector MB Patil was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Bhayander Police have registered a case under Section 336 (Endangering lives of humans) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the site manager and an engineer where J Kumar Company is tasked to construct the metro line.
Patil was further quoted as saying that statements of the victims’ statements are being recorded and probe is underway on why adequate safety measures were not taken by the project head on a busy Mumbai road.
