A highly confident South Africa will look to continue their winning spree in the ODI World Cup 2023 when they face battered and bruised Bangladesh on Tuesday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Proteas fire is burning ferociously with three wins and 6 points on the table. Bangladesh, on the other hand, are tottering at 7th spot with a lone win against Afghanistan on October 7.

As Mumbai braces up for another high-voltage clash, South Africa captain Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bat against Bangladesh. He continues to lead the side as regular skipper Temba Bavuma hasn’t regained his fitness. Markram also informed that Lungi Ngidi will miss out due to a niggle and has been replaced by William Lizaad.

“We will bat first. Trying to approach it in a similar way to the English game. It’s really hot. It took a toll on everyone, it’s advantage fielding in the evening. It proves that anyone can beat anyone. We took a lesson from that Netherlands game, it’s a new day today. We need to try and repeat the same thing. Ngidi has a niggle, he misses out, Lizaad comes in,” said Markram after winning the toss.

Meanwhile, Shakib al Hasan is fully fit and is back in the mix. As he returns to face the Proteas, Towhid Hridoy has been benched.

“Hridoy is not playing, I come in the team for him. Today is an important game, we have to play our best cricket to win against SA. I don’t mind bowling first. If we restrict them to a respectable total, we can chase it down,” said Bangladesh skipper Shakib al Hasan.

Here are the playing XIs:

South Africa: Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram(c), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lizaad Williams.

Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan(c), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Mahmudullah, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud.
