It’s indeed been a dream world cup for South African wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock who has set the tournament on fire with his red-hot form while opening the innings for his team.
In seven innings, De Kock has racked up 545 runs including four centuries to remain at the top of the top run-getters list. On Wednesday, he scored a scintillating 114 off 116 with the help of 10 fours and three sixes.

India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, known for his knack of stepping up in ICC events, shared a hilarious clip of a child to sum up the mood of the bowlers who have run into De Kock in the ongoing tournament.

“Bowlers after bowling to Quinton de Kock in this World Cup. A dream World Cup for a player before retirement,” Dhawan posted on X (formerly Twitter).
De Kock has announced he will retire from ODIs following the conclusion of the 2023 world cup in India. He’s already quite red-ball cricket and will now be available for just T20Is.
When asked during a mid-innings chat with the broadcasters if this is the best form of his life, De Kock replied, “I think so. I am feeling really good lately. Nice that everything is coming together at an important time for us.”
When asked if he would rethink his decision to retire considering the manner in which he’s batting right now, De Kock seem to be content with the call.
“My career is coming down to a finish, trying to bat as much as I can,” the 30-year-old said.
South Africa posted 357/4 against New Zealand and then skittled their opponents for 167 for a massive 190-run win – their sixth of the competition.
