Delhi Weather on January 16: Delhi Palam (VIDP) and Safdarjung Airports are reporting 500m visibilities

Flyers to and fro Delhi continue to face hurdles as the India Meteorological Department has forecast dense to very dense fog conditions over north India during the next four-five days.

“Palam Airport(VIDP) is reporting 100 m visibility at 0700 hrs IST which becomes 00 m at 0730 hrs IST and Safadrjung airport (VIDD) 50 m at 0700 & 0730 hrs IST on today 16.01.2023,” the IMD posted on X on Tuesday morning.

Early morning reports stated that several flights have been delayed. However, the Delhi airport said that all flight operations are “presently normal”. The authorities advised passengers to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.

Visuals by news agency ANI showed passengers waiting for hours at Indira Gandhi International Airport. “My flight was about to depart at 8:40 am but it is now scheduled to depart at 10:30 am…The reason they have given is mainly due to weather and fog…,” a passenger at Delhi airport was quoted as saying.

At least 463 flights leaving Delhi were delayed and 87 flights were cancelled on Monday, according to aviation website Flightradar24. More than 500 flights were delayed in Delhi on Sunday.

The aviation regulator said in an email to airlines that they are required to share accurate, real-time information about flight delays to passengers with immediate effect.
