Fakhar Zaman slammed the fastest hundred by a Pakistan batter in World Cup needing just 63 balls to equal Rohit Sharma's feat in all-time fastest World Cup centuries.

Fakhar Zaman has etched his name in the history books as he smashed the fastest century in the World Cup by a Pakistan batter. Chasing New Zealand’s record total of 401/6 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Zaman kept Pakistan ahead of the par DLS total in a rain-curtailed match.

The fixture between Pakistan and New Zealand was a must-win game for both teams as they were looking to cement their hopes of finishing in the top four to reach the semifinals.

Zaman hit his century in just 63 balls, taking Pakistan past the 150-run mark as they set out to scale the mountain target of 402 runs.

Previously, Imran Nazir held the record for the fastest century by a Pakistan batter. Nazir achieved the feat against Zimbabwe during the 2007 World Cup, crossing the three-figure mark in 95 balls, but Zaman needed just 63 balls to hit his hundred against New Zealand in Bengaluru.

Furthermore, Fakhar also surpassed Nazir by smashing the most sixes in a World Cup innings by a Pakistan batter. Nazir played a blistering knock of 160 runs in 121 balls, hitting a massive 8 sixes back in 2007, but Zaman hit nine sixes en route to his record-breaking century.

In the all-time World Cup fastest hundreds, Zaman’s knock was the joint-ninth fastest along with Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell leads the charts for the fastest World Cup hundred, achieving the feat in just 40 balls against the Netherlands, last month.

It was a forgetful outing for the Pakistan bowlers earlier in the first innings, Rachin Ravindra smashed a century, while Kane Williamson hit 95 runs on his comeback, helping the Kiwis put together a mammoth total.

The Pace duo of Shaheen Afridi and Harris Rauf bowled the most expensive spells by Pakistan bowlers in a World Cup innings, as Shaheen conceded 90 runs without any success, whereas Rauf gave away 85 runs with just a solitary wicket.
