BCCI secretary Jay Shah has called Virat Kohli a 'distinguished batsman' who has redefined the game.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has extended is wishes to India batting superstar Virat Kohli on the latter’s 35th birthday today.

Calling him an inspirational leader, Shah said Kohli has left an indelible mark on Indian cricket.

“Extending heartfelt birthday wishes to the cricketing maestro, @virat.kohli! Your monumental contributions to Indian cricket have left an indelible mark, surpassing records and expectations,” Shah captioned an Instagram picture of him posing alongside Kohli.

“As a distinguished batsman, an inspirational leader, a fitness trendsetter, and a paragon of sportsmanship, you’ve redefined the game. May you continue to set new records, spreading joy and inspiring generations!” he added.

Kohli is widely regarded as one of the greatest batters to have played the game and is known for his incredible fitness. He’s often credited to have instilled a culture of fitness in the Indian cricket team.

Growing up, Kohli was a foodie but to maintain his fitness, he’s stuck to a strict diet and often shares clips of his training sessions on social media.

Known for his insatiable appetite for hundreds, Kohli is second in the list of players with most centuries in international cricket history.

Currently, he’s taking part in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 wherein he’s been in superb form having scored 442 runs from eight innings that include a century and four fifties.

Kohli won the ODI World Cup in 2011 when he was part of the MS Dhoni-led side that defeated Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in the title clash.

He first came into the limelight when he captained India’s U-19 squad to the world cup title in in 2007.

Kohli also went on to lead the senior Indian men’s cricket team across formats succeeding Dhoni into the roles.

He’s married to Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and together, the couple has a daughter named Vamika.
