Elated by his appearance on the field, the Bengaluru crowd was heard chanting “RCB…RCB” when the Aussie all-rounder was fielding during his side’s World Cup 2023 match against Pakistan.

Glenn Maxwell holds a soft spot in his heart for M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as he got love from the local fans while representing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). A heartwarming moment between the Bengaluru fans and Maxwell was also witnessed during the World Cup. Elated by his appearance on the field, the Bengaluru crowd was heard chanting “RCB…RCB” when the Aussie all-rounder was fielding during his side’s World Cup 2023 match against Pakistan. The cheer caught the attention of Maxwell, who responded to the fans with a wholehearted smile. The moment was captured by a social media user and the video is now going viral on X, formerly Twitter.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had roped in Glenn Maxwell ahead of the 2021 IPL season. The Aussie accumulated a total of 513 runs in 15 appearances during his first season with the Bangalore-based franchise. Thanks to his commendable performance, Royal Challengers Bangalore retained Maxwell ahead of the 2022 season.

Maxwell did not have a memorable outing against Pakistan as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck. But in the next game against the Netherlands, Maxwell pulled off a record-breaking century.

Winning the toss, Australia elected to bat first. Their top order, spearheaded by opener David Warner, put up a composed show, building the foundation for a huge total. Warner notched his second-consecutive century of the tournament, while Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne each registered a fifty-plus score. Glenn Maxwell arrived at the crease following the wicket of Josh Inglish and looked impressive from the very first delivery.

Maxwell took only 27 balls to reach his fifty and needed only 13 balls more to breach the three-digit mark. His 40-ball century is now the fastest in the history of the ICC ODI World Cup. Maxwell struck as many as 9 boundaries and 8sixes before being dismissed for 106 runs by Logan Van Beek.

During the post-match interaction, Maxwell dedicated his knock to his wife Vini Raman and newborn son Logan Maverick Maxwell, who touched down in India ahead of the Netherlands fixture. “Nice to have the kid and wife here – it’s been a while,” the 35-year-old said.

Royal Challengers Bangalore made sure to celebrate Maxwell’s knock with a special post. “Dedicated the century to his newborn son Logan Maverick Maxwell who just arrived in India ahead of this game. Smashed Logan van Beek for 18 runs in 7 balls at a strike rate of 257.14. Eventually got out to Logan,” the franchise wrote on X.

Riding on Maxwell’s power-packed performance, Australia posted a mammoth 399 runs on the board. Their bowling department was equally impressive as they bundled out the Netherlands for 90 runs in 21 overs.
