New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson shared a picture with former WWE wrestler Dalip Singh Rana aka The Great Khali on Instagram. Injury issues have kept Williamson on the sidelines of the World Cup, featuring in only one of the four games that his side have played. Williamson recently suffered a thumb injury which ruled him out for New Zealand’s upcoming clash against hosts India.
Amidst his recovery, the Kiwi batter showcased his sense of humour sharing a cheeky Instagram caption where he can be seen shaking hands with The Great Khali. The 33-year-old wrote, “When I really fractured my thumb. Na but seriously, that’s one strong handshake! Pleasure to meet The Great Khali!”

Kane Williamson’s fitness issues raised concerns over his presence at the ongoing World Cup tournament. The New Zealand captain was able to make some recovery that saw him travel to India along with his squad for the competition.

He was still struggling with fitness as he missed New Zealand’s first two games at the World Cup. Fortunately, the Kiwis were brilliant in their opener against defending champions England as Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra smashed centuries to win the game by nine wickets. In their next game, New Zealand defeated the Netherlands by 99 runs. Tom Latham, who was leading New Zealand, in Willamson’s absence, scored 53 runs in 46 balls to secure a win.
Kane Williamson returned to World Cup action during New Zealand’s third game of the competition against Bangladesh. Williamson led the side and scored 78 during his side’s run chase to win the game by eight wickets. During the game, the Kiwi skipper hurt his left thumb while running between the wickets after a ball struck him. He had to leave the pitch as retired hurt.

New Zealand are scheduled to face the Indian cricket team next. The hosts have looked unstoppable in the pursuit of the World Cup crown.
