National Conference leader says party won’t make bid for power.

Srinagar: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has said his party won’t stake claim to form a Government in Jammu and Kashmir after Congres Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned on Monday.

“We have made our views very clear—we are the single largest party (and) we will let the people decide in elections,” Abdullah told CNN-IBN minutes after Azad told the state Assembly he will not face a trust vote and was resigning.

“We are not looking at any pre-poll alliance and we are not going to stake claim to form a Government,” said Abdullah, who has 24 legislators in the Assembly.

Abdullah, whose party was a member of the previous NDA government at the Centre, said he won’t be forming an alliance with the BJP. “It is no possible to have any pre-poll or post-poll alliance with the BJP. We don’t know the shape of the next Assembly—we need to get into a campaign mode,” he said.

On then other hand Congress is blaming former governor for having triggered the crisis.

"It's been unfortunate that the governor perhaps just on the way out, create an issue which did not exist. We know that yatris have been fully looked after and the order has been revoked. Therefore where's the issue? That's why I say non issue is made into an issue for purely cheap politics and gimmickry, I am sure people will understand in the long run," Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

Azad refused to face the vote of no confidence in Assembly and instead decided to resign. He went to Governor N N Vohra to submit his resignation after he delivered a speech highlighting the performance during 43 months of his governance.

"I will not face the vote of no confidence,” Azad told the house, which was specially convened after key alliance partner Peoples Democratic Party pulled out of the Congress-led government amid the difference over Amarnath land row last week.

Azad sought permission from the speaker of the house to withdraw the confidence motion before he went to Raj Bhawan to tender his resignation.
