AFSPA row: Separatists call for Kashmir bandh
The 24-hour bandh has been called in the valley against the Army's presence and a 'black day' will be observed on Thursday.

Srinagar: As the confrontation between the Abdullahs and the Army continues over the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), the separatists have called 24-hour bandh in the valley against the Army's presence and will observe a 'black day' on Thursday.

A day after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reached out to the Army saying it is playing a major role in anti-militancy operations in the valley, the Army has said it is for the home ministry to decide on the rollback of AFSPA.

"This is within the preview of the Home Ministry. We have given our views…I don't want to comment on it further," said Army chief General VK Singh.

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister praised the Army a day after Farooq Abdullah's brother Mustafa Kamal accused the Army of carrying out Tuesday's blasts in Srinagar to ensure that the AFSPA remains in force in the state.

Reacting to Mustafa Kamal's statement accusing the Army of being behind Tuesday's blasts in Srinagar, the Army Chief said such remarks don't deserve any response.

"Whoever given this comment, I don't think he deserves the courtesy of any remarks from me," said General VK Singh.
