Taking a dig at Opposition, after BJP sweeped the local body elections in Gujarat, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday said "honest people are voting for honest party and honest leader."

New Delhi: Taking a dig at Opposition, after BJP sweeped the local body elections in Gujarat, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday said "honest people are voting for honest party and honest leader."

Stating that the winning spree of BJP continues, Naidu asked the opponents, whom he said are "day dreaming", to "understand the mood" of the nation.

"BJP sweeps local body elections in Gujarat. Compliments to CM Shri Vijay Bhai Rupani, DyCM Shri Nitin Bhai Patel, BJP State President Shri Jeetu Bhai Vaghani," the Union Urban Development and Information and Broadcasting minister said in a tweet.

Naidu said BJP won municipal polls in 41 out of 44 seats in Vapi, 27 out of 28 in Kanakpur-Kansad and 18 out of 22 in Gondal Taluka Panchayat.

"The winning spree of BJP continues. BJP becomes victorious in Madhya Pradesh, Assam Parliament and Assembly by-polls. West Bengal, Tripura commendable performance of the party.

"Yesterday, it was turn of Maharashtra where BJP has won more than 55 local body polls on its own and made in roads and gains in new areas. Today its Gujarat.

"Honest people are voting for honest party and honest leader. Hope our opponents who are day dreaming understand the mood of the nation," he said.

In a shot in the arm for BJP after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation move and ahead of Gujarat elections next year, the party swept local bodies elections by capturing 107 seats out of total 123 seats which went for polls in different parts of Gujarat.
