New Delhi: In the midst of political mud-slinging over the JNU-Afzal Guru row, BJP president Amit Shah on Monday slammed Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for his support to anti-nationals movement allegedly backed by some student's union.

He also warned Gandhi to refrain from making controversial statement that the saffron party is promoting a divide and hatred agenda in India.

"I wonder whether he (Gandhi) wanted another division of India," he said at the BJP headquarters on Monday evening.

The party president also demanded apology from Gandhi for his stand on the JNU issue.

Shah's attack on Gandhi came after he had visited JNU on February 13 and questioned the arrest of JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar on sedition charges.

Kanhaiya was arrested by the Delhi police under charges of sedition after he was reportedly found associated with an event in JNU campus where they condemned Afzal Guru's hanging.

Expressing concern over maligning the image of one of the best universities in India, Shah said, "It was a planned attempt to defame a leading university by encouraging terrorism and separatism. He should understand the difference between national interest and anti-national activities".

Earlier in the day while addressing a party meeting in Assam's Sonitpur district, Gandhi hits out at BJP by claiming the party is involved in hate politics to gain political mileage.

"They (BJP leaders) want to impose their views forcibly on people and we will not allow them to do so," he added.
