Kiran Kumar Reddy says YSR Reddy became a tall leader due to Sonia's blessings.

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy took on former Congress MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday and dared Jagan's supporters to fight elections without Congress ticket.

Launching a scathing attack on Jagan, Kiran Reddy has said that late Andhra chief minister YS Rajashekhar Reddy's family should be indebted to Congress President Sonia Gandhi because it was due to her encouragement that YSR became a tall leader.

Countering Jagan's statement that he did a favour by not destabilising the state government, Reddy said that the state did not need anybody's favour.

"YSR's family should be indebted to Sonia Gandhi for it is because of her encouragement that YSR Reddy bacame a tall leader in the state. Andhra government is strong and does not need anybody's favours to stay in power. Those Congress MLAs supporting Jagan should first resign, fight elections and see if they would win without the Congress ticket," Reddy said in New Delhi on Saturday.

Jaganmohan Reddy has been claiming the support of 24 Congress MLAs from Andhra Pradesh.

He resigned from the Congress on November 29, 2010 after criticising the top leadership including Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi. He has also filed an application with the Election Commission for registering a new political party.

Jagan apparently wanted to become the chief minister after his father YSR's death in a helicopter crash in 2009. The rift emerged after the Congress declined his wish to succeed his father as the chief minister of the state.
